AnimSchool 3D Modeling & Rigging Student Showcase

Finding a career that allows you to use your creative talents while also paying the bills can be challenging. For those considering animation, many people may not be aware of an option that allows you to train in half the time--and at a fraction of the expense of traditional college programs.

AnimSchool teaches artists from all over the world to become competitive in the world of 3D animation. Students enrolled in AnimSchool may focus on one of two programs as their specialty:

AnimSchool
3D Character Program Track

This program teaches students how to make a 3D character through modeling and rigging. Once a design has been sketched, it must then be modeled properly. Then the character is rigged to prepare each part of a character or object to bend, move and express believably. 3D Character students follow seven courses to become fully trained (three prerequisites and four program courses).

  • Marshall
    1

    Introduction to 3D Modeling

This class explores the principles of modeling formats and how they apply to simple objects. Students learn basic modeling concepts while practicing topology layouts in theory and practice, modeling workflows, and achieving desirable shaping. Student learn how to model household objects, designed vehicles, and a character’s head.

  • 2

    Introduction to Rigging

For this course, students build on the modeling knowledge from the previous class to learn basic rigging concepts and their accompanying skills in order to create realistic characters. Students learn how to put bones into the character and apply shapes to make them poseable.

  • 3

    Intermediate Modeling

Students utilize polygon/subdivision-surface modeling tools to create a character, learning the best topology and shaping for heads, limbs, torsos, and hands. Instructors offer individual feedback on refining shapes for maximum appeal and usability in the rigging process.

  • 4

    Intermediate Rigging

This class allows students to use the rigging concepts they have already mastered to apply joints and smooth skinning to their models from the previous class. Now the students are ready to build their own poseable characters.

  • 5

    Introduction to 3D Animation/Character Evaluation

This semester offers 3D character students an introduction to the principles of animation, and then put their character through a test, by posing and animating the character they have been creating.

  • 6

    Advanced Rigging OR ZBrush Modeling

Advanced rigging teaches students advanced facial rigging techniques, so their face can come alive. ZBrush Modeling teaches them how to sculpt a character from a design using ZBrush software, in-conjunction with Autodesk Maya. 3D Character students may decide which option they want to pursue for this term.

  • 7

Rigging Automation and Tools Development OR Environmental Modeling

Once again, students can choose which subject they would like to specialize in for this final semester. Rigging automation focuses on modern rigging, using data and scripting languages. Environmental modeling shows students how to place their characters into a background set.
3D Animation Program Track

The 3D Animation program teaches artists how to make the characters move and perform in a convincing way. Facial expressions, locomotion and character performance are all studied extensively so that students are able to create believable performances using AnimSchool’s world-renowned 3D characters.

  • Marshall
    1

    Introduction to 3D Animation

Students learn how to give objects and simple characters believable motion while practicing techniques for 3D animation workflow. Student learn the essential foundations of all animation: timing, arcs, spacing and how to create the illusion of weight.

  • 2

    Animating Characters

This course explores the mechanics of biped character locomotion. Student learn how to make a full character walk, run, interact with weight, pose naturally, and move in a convincing way. These skills are the basis of all advanced animation. Before learning acting skills, the student must master body mechanics.

  • 3

Introduction to 3D Modeling OR Rigging

3D Animation students use this term to learn either basic modeling or rigging. This helps the students be familiar with the processes surrounding animation so they can be comfortable modifying their scenes, modeling props and outfits, and handling the technical parts of animation, such as animating constraints.

  • 4

    Body Acting

This course offers insight into the art of pantomime acting to bring an animated character to life. This is when students’ creativity is unleashed. Using simple characters, students learn storytelling, acting essentials, and how to stage a performance for the audience.

  • 5

    Character Performance

In this class, students are now ready to use AnimSchool’s famous advanced characters and bring them to life in a dialogue acting shot. Students learn lip synch, advanced posing and animation. AnimSchool excels at expressive character animation -- students learn how to get the most compelling performance from the 3D characters.

  • 6

    Facial Performance

During this term, students animate a close-up shot to learn convincing facial acting. Students learn how to make the audience believe their character’s emotions. Instructors work with students to help them use appealing facial posing and achieve a high level of refinement in the performance.

  • 7

    Animating Appeal and Entertainment

Now that students have approached all the elements of animating, this final master-level class helps students making the best acting choices and then polish their animation to the highest levels, so students will be in demand by employers.
